Better Late Than Never: Free Shipt With Visa Card

How did I, a sort-of credit cards expert, come to find out only now that I could get a free Shipt subscription with my Visa card, four months after it was announced?

Let me set the scene for you. I am in frigid Wisconsin, having returned here just two weeks after my last visit. Family funeral, alas. My family is making due as best they can without all that sweet work-at-home-mom value I usually add.

My two daughters got sick this week — so far Covid tests are negative. My husband texted me that my older daughter had run out of her favorite tea, but he didn’t have time to go to Safeway and restock.

Since I was just cooling my heels at my parents’ house, I decided to try and order some tea from Target for her, using Shipt to deliver it. Then I noticed that Shipt costs $9.99 per order, which felt like a lot. So I started Googling, and that’s when I found out that my Chase Sapphire Visa qualified me for three free months of Shipt. If I don’t cancel, the next nine months would be half price, or $4.99 a month.

Cool story, right? But it gets sort of funny after this. It took me forever to figure out how to enroll my Visa card on the web site. I talked to two different chat agents, tried different browsers, and finally succeeded by installing the Shipt app on my phone. Then I had to figure out how to let Target know I have a Shipt membership — entering the qualifying credit card did the trick.

And then. I noticed that my daughter’s prefered tea isn’t available for Shipt delivery from Target. Only like, shipping delivery.

Ah well. I sent my family a care package with everything else they asked for, except for the main thing I went there to buy. Basically, typical Target trip.
